Provincetown (nickname P-town) is a town situated at the extreme tip of Cape Cod. Provincetown is where the Pilgrims landed in 1620, and then signed the Mayflower Compact (the first governing document of the first colony in America). The Pilgrim Monument, America's tallest all-granite structure, commemorates this episode. Nowadays, Provincetown is remarkably sophisticated and lively for its size (year-round population around 3000, swelling to 60,000 in the summer), with a vibrant art community. Quiet can however been found not far from town, on the beaches and sand dunes of Cape Cod National Seashore. Provincetown has the highest concentration of same-sex couple households of any place in the United States. There are more than a hundred guesthouse in Provincetown, but no motel in town.
