Amarapura, contiguous to Mandalay, was the capital of Myanmar twice. Amarapura is known for its traditional silk and cotton weaving, the Mahagandayon Monastery, a center for monastic study and strict religious discipline with more than a thousand young monks, and the U Bein Bridge, considered the longest piece of teak wood in the world.
