Kyaiktiyo, also known as Golden Rock, consists of a boulder covered in gold, on the top of which a small pagoda has been built. The gravity-defying boulder lies on an inclined rock slab with a small area of contact, overhanging for half its length. It is said that it is a strand of Buddha's hair enshriend in it, which prevents the rock from tumbling down the hill. Kyaiktiyo is the focus of an extraordinary Buddhist pilgrimage site with great devotion and atmosphere, and relatively few tourists.
