Bugis Street, billed as "the largest street-shopping location in Singapore", is a maze of lanes lined with stalls selling food and cheap goods. From the 1950s to the 1980s, Bugis was renowned for its nightly gathering of transwomen, but its redevelopment into a retail complex caused the end of the transgender culture.
