Taroko National Park is Taiwan's most visited natural attraction. In its centerpiece, the Taroko Gorge, blue-green Liwu River has carved a narrow canyon into marble walls. Above Taroko Gorge, forests and waterfalls descend from misty mountains which meet the Pacific Ocean with tall sea cliffs. Taroko's natural beauty is complemented by a number of temples and shrines, as well as a network of hiking trails. The narrowest portions of Taroko Gorge is easily seen by walking on the main road in the Swallow Grotto and Tunnel of Nine Turns.
