Pindaya is quiet town built around a peaceful lake surrounded by giant banyan trees. Accessed by spider-shaped covered stairs high on the cliffs, the Pindaya Caves are famous for having over 8,000 Buddha statues that were placed there by pilgrims over the centuries. They fill up every imaginable space inside to create an incredible labyrinth of Buddhas. The collection forms an extraordinary display of Buddhist art from 18th century to the modern period, with an impressive range of styles.
