Hells Canyon is the deepest river gorge in America. The Snake River, which carved Hells Canyon, flows almost 8,000 feet (2,436 m) below the eastern rim, formed by the Seven Devils Mountains. Hells Canyon separates Oregon and Idaho, and is included in Hells Canyon National Recreation Area.
