Houston is largest city in Texas (population 2.2 million), and the fourth in the United States. Houston was named after General Sam Houston, who won the decisive Battle of San Jacinto against Mexico nearby, paving the way for Texas to become a republic. Houston's strong economy is based on health care (Texas Medical Center is the world's largest concentration of health care institutions), energy, aeronautics (including NASA's mission control), and its port. A multicultural city, Houston is home to a number of world-class museums, conveniently concentrated in its Museum District.
