Carrizo Plain National Monument preserves the largest single native grassland remaining in California. Carrizo Plain is enclosed between the Temblor Range and the Caliente Range. Soda Lake, a large alkaline lake with a bed of white salt, receives all the runoff from the plain. Carrizo Plain is also one of the best places to see the San Andreas Fault, and is home to several historic ranches. On a good year, the Carrizo Plain and surrounding hills can exhibit outstanding wildflower displays in the spring.
