The West Bank is an area populated by Palestinians. At the heart of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and Middle-East instability in general, its status as a territory is one of the most disputed in the world. The West Bank contains a number of biblical sites (such as the nativity site in Bethlehem, a
UNESCO World Heritage Site) and monestaries in dramatic desert settings, one of the most impressive being Mar Saba. Besides the sedentary arab population, there are also a number of nomadic Bedouin tribes that live in canvas tents in the Judean desert and raise sheep and goats. Despite their harsh and poor live, they are extremely hospitable.
