Banff National Park is Canada's first, and most well known National Park. Banff National Park (as well as the neighboring parks) offers a rare combination of some of the ruggest and most wild nature in North America, and relatively access thanks to 350 km of roadways (that go right to many beautiful sites, such as the signature turquoise-colored lakes) and a well developed infrastructure that includes lots of campgrounds as well as luxurious historic hotels. Banff National Park receves millions of visitors from all around the world each year, however it is still relatively to find solitude. In winter, the range offers the best waterfall ice climbing in North America, and, some argue, in the world.
Banff National Park, together with neighbor parks (Jasper, Yoho, Kootenay) form a huge protected area of the Canadian Rockies that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
