Jasper National Park is the largest of the four Canadian Rocky Mountain national parks, with the most impressive mountain scenery, yet it receives less than half the visitation of Banff National Park. A remarkable highlight is easy access to glaciers. The Athabasca Glacier, possibly the most popular attraction in the park, is only a few minutes walk from the parking lot. There are even specially designed snowcoaches that transport visitors several kilometers onto the glacier. At the base of Mount Edith Cavell, possibly the most spectacular mountain location accessible by road in the Canadian Rockies, a short hike leads to an iceberg-filled glacial lake, where one glacier drops in the water, and another looms above.
Jasper National Park, together with neighbor parks (Banff, Yoho, Kootenay) form a huge protected area of the Canadian Rockies that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
