Waimea Canyon, despite its smaller size of one mile across and ten miles long, deserves its nickname "Grand Canyon of the Pacific". Although not as old, large, or deep, it holds its own with the frequent interplay of light and cloud shadows, over its lush vegetation and red rocks. Its river-cut gorge is almost 3000 feet deep, a surprising sight on such a small island.
