The Koolau Mountains span the length of Oahu'ss eastern coast. The crest averages 2,600 feet in elevation; the highest peak (Konahuanui) is 3,150 feet. The Koolau Range receives the brunt of rain deposited by the warm and moist Pacific winds that blow from the Northeast. On the windward (east) side, many hundred thousand years of constant gales have carved beautiful rippling rock faces, near-vertical ridges, and precipitous cliffs, carpeted with every shade of green. The H3 and Pali Highways both cross right through the Koolau Mountains, offering dramatic close views.
