Sa Dec is a town of the Mekong Delta, known to the Westerners because of Marguerite Duras, and to domestic tourists because of the many nurseries, which are a major attraction around the Tet holiday, when the flowers sell like hot cakes. Being a fertile rice-growing area, Sa Dec is home of several brick-making factories, as there is a symbiosis between rice and bricks: clay is picked up to prepare rice fields, rice hulls are used to heat ovens.
