The area around Groveland and Mariposa, in the Western Sierra Nevada foothills, was part of California Gold Rush. After it ended, development was sustained by the nearby reservoirs. Nowadays, the towns are known as the main gateways to
Yosemite National Park. The Iron Door Saloon in Groveland is California's oldest continuously-operating saloon.
