The four main yearly events in San Francisco are the Chinese New Year Parade, the Bay to Breakers race, the Gay Parade, and Halloween. The Chinese New Year takes place in between January and March. It is an evening parade organized by one of the oldest and largest Chinese communities abroad. The Bay to Breakers, taking place in May, besides being an international race for a few, is also a moving party for the tens of thousands of participants, as well as a moving costume contest. The Gay Parade is a manifestation of the vitality of San Francisco's gay community, the largest in the US. That community also significantly contributes to Halloween, which takes place in its core district, the Castro.
