A heavily visited area, the Fisherman's wharf area has many of the maritime attractions of San Francisco. A working fishing harbor delivers fresh fish to the area's numerous restaurants. A glimpse at the important maritime past of the city can be had at the Maritime Museum that includes the Balclutha, a three-mast sail ship. Residents use the area's marinas to launch their boats into the Bay, a prime sailing area because of consistent winds. Iconic California wildlife, a large and noisy colony of sea lions, has even come permanently to town at Pier 39.
