Tra Vinh is a pretty town of the Mekong Delta, remarkable for the 300,000 members of the Khmer Krom ethnic group who live around, remnants of the time when the area was part of the Khmer Empire. Unlike the main Vietnamese population, they practice Theravada Buddhism rather than Mahayana. Tra Vinh is surrounded by temples in distinctive Khmer style.
