Waikiki, a district of Honolulu, is where half of the visitors in all the Hawaiian islands stay. Waikiki's high-rise hotels, packed into an area of less than a square mile, provide more than 60,000 rooms. With such a population density, there is always a lot happening there. The main draw by day is Waikiki Beach, one of the most user-friendly beaches anywhere. Besides the warm water, white sand, and well-maintained facilities, anyone can swim in waters protected by a sea-wall, or take a surfing lesson. By night, there are endless shopping opportunities and hundreds of restaurants.
