Big Ben is the informal name for the Great Bell of the
Palace of Westminster, and is also used to designate the whole clock tower, formally known as St. Stephen's Tower. The clock in the tower, when completed was the biggest in the world, and one of the most precise, able to strike the first blow for each hour with an accuracy of a second.
