Anza Borrego Desert State Park, about sixty miles east of San Diego, and two miles north of the Mexican border, is one of North America's largest state parks. You'll find there a variety of geological formations, as well as remote canyon springs surrounded by native palm groves, and desert bighorn sheep. Being that far south, it is one of the first places each spring in the US where desert blossoms arrive. Unlike most of the protected lands, the Park has an open backcountry camping policy that makes it easy to explore through some of its five hundred miles of unpaved roads.
